A group of musicians have joined the anti-xenophobic chorus by recording a song that was released today.Thursday 23.04.15. They say one life lost, is one too many. Top recording and performing musicians, mostly from Nigeria, South Africa and other African countries sans Ghana, lent their magic voice in the song, a project supported by the telecommunication company, MTN.

One would have thought, that top Ghanaian music heavy weights would have been part of this song, giving Ghana’s assumed “position” in Africa’s music industry. Personally, i had thought, great voices, such a Efya and Wiyaala could have made a cut in this as Ghana’s representatives, but why non of these musician made it, remains an issue for yet another discussion. But then again, one wonders what qualities are there in Ghana’s musicians and there music, when compared to songs and musicians emanating out of other African countries, that i suppose, should be left to our individual imaginations.

Meanwhile, reacting to the importance of the Pan African song, Nigerian musician and producer,Don Jazzy says, “We would not accept the fact that people will actually kill fellow Africans as we believe that Africans belong in Africa and no African can become a foreigner in Africa.”

It’s not the first time that musicians are heeding to the call. At the height of Apartheid decades agos, musicians spearheaded campaigns for a free South Africa and now that we are free, they are collaborating to fight xenophobia.

Music producer, Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala says, “We want the song to a send a message out there. Musicians are a voice, musicians are a big voice, you will remember even before Apartheid was abolished we used music.”
